Development of Cultivar Identification System Using 12 InDel Markers for Widely Distributed Citrus Cultivars in Japan

Citrus cultivar identification systems using cleaved amplified polymorphic site and single-nucleotide polymorphism markers have been developed for nursery trees flesh fruits, but time cost efficiency require improvement the inspection process. Here, we a new system InDel marker. Twelve markers, which revealed clear bi-allelic PCR fragment patterns, were selected from 185 markers. Their primer sets redesigned to generate less than 650 bp fragments, all confirmed apply leaf fresh fruit samples. It was that they inherited in codominant fashion among cultivars with parent–offspring relationships. At least two differentiating polymorphisms discriminate any paired combination 33 citrus provided, including 14 ancestral varieties reference genome of clementine mandarin. Minimal marker subsets identify target are listed each registered valid breeder’s rights.
